MaxxECU online help

2003 Yamaha Vmax.

Vmax (1985-2007) and the Venture (1983-1993)

70 degree V4

Information

These engines have individual coils per cylinder and are wasted spark from the factory. (that’s why the trigger pattern looks the way it does).

The engine is odd fire (TDC angles are 0-180-430-610) so the OE ignition box fires each coil individually twice per cycle.

Wasted spark on a 4 cylinder odd-fire engine would output signals at different angles to match the cylinder TDC settings.

If the firing order is 1-2-3-4, then output 1 will fire at 0 and 410 degrees, and output 2 fire at 180 and 610 degrees.

Used in combination with MAP sensor as sync on ITB instead of wated spark.
